Delete Your Account
Last updated: 9 October 2026
Storyboat, operated by Windward Stories, lets you delete your account and its associated data at any time, from inside the app or on this website. This page explains where the button is, what is deleted, and what we’re required to keep.
1. How to delete your account
There are two places to do it, and both delete the account immediately:
- On the web: sign in, open your account page, then Delete account.
- In the app (iOS and Android), for an account you signed in to with Google or Apple: Settings, then Delete account. The settings icon is at the top of your library.
The app does not ask anyone to sign in. If you started playing stories without signing in, you have no Storyboat account to delete: the app holds only an anonymous identifier, with no name or email address, and we remove identifiers that go unused. If you would like yours removed sooner, email us (see Contact) and we will do it.
Both show you a summary of what will be removed and ask you to confirm once. After you confirm, the account is deleted and cannot be recovered.
2. What gets deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Your sign-in record. The email address you sign in with (or your Apple @privaterelay.appleid.com relay address), together with the connection to the Google or Apple account you used.
- Your subscription entitlement record. The premium-access record we hold for your account, which is what unlocks the library.
We also keep product-analytics events about how the app is used, such as a story being opened or finished. These are recorded against an account identifier rather than your name or address, and once your account is deleted that identifier no longer refers to anyone. We keep those events to understand how the app is used overall.
Deleting your account does not remove any published story from Storyboat. Stories are ours rather than yours, and nothing you delete changes what other families can read.
3. Signing up again
You’re welcome to come back at any time. On the web you can sign up again, with the same Google or Apple account if you like; in the app you can start playing stories straight away, or sign in again. Either way it is a new start, not a restored account: your old account and its records are gone.
That matters if you had premium. If you bought it through the App Store or Google Play, use Restore purchases in the app and your access comes back, because the store holds the receipt. If you bought it on the web, there is nothing to restore from and the access cannot be moved to a new account.
4. What we keep, and for how long
We may retain a limited amount of information after your account is deleted, only where we’re legally required to or need it to protect the Service:
- Billing & tax records. Records of payments and transactions are kept for the period required by applicable tax and accounting law, then deleted.
- Security & fraud-prevention records. Limited records needed to keep the Service secure and prevent abuse, kept only as long as necessary for that purpose.
Payments are processed by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Paddle (via RevenueCat), and those providers keep their own billing and customer records under their own policies. Deleting your Storyboat account does not delete records held by them.
5. Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your Storyboat account does not automatically cancel a paid subscription billed by the App Store, Google Play, or Paddle. If you have an active subscription, please cancel it first so you aren’t charged again. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for how to cancel on each platform.
This matters most if you subscribed on the web. We open your billing portal for you from your account page, and we can only do that while the account exists. Once it is deleted we can no longer reach your subscription on your behalf, so cancel before you delete. App Store and Google Play subscriptions can always be cancelled from your device’s own settings, whether or not your Storyboat account still exists.
A lifetime Founding Family purchase has nothing to cancel. Bought in the App Store or Google Play, it comes back with Restore purchases in the app; bought on the web, deleting your account removes it for good. Please see the note above about coming back before you delete.
